My assistant professor told us his researcher's life in his college days. But, it was full of harassment.
For example,
when his professor found students eat lunch, the professor began to say "Do not eat anything unless you finish your experiment!".
When his professor found students are absent from school on Sundays, the professor rings the students up and says "You must come here to research!"
When his professor found students are unfamiliar with names of tools, the professor throws a catalog.
When his professor found students are absent because of job-hunting, the professor says "If you don't reseach, I'll fire you or make you repeat a year! If you study hard, you'll find jobs without job-hunting!"
Actually, those who engaged in job-hunting were forced to retire or repeat a year. And, those who didn't engage in job-hunting got no job offer. Reportedly, the professor refused job offer in order to make students help his experiments after graduating.
I think students in that laboratory should have gone on strike.
