On May 10, Kintetsu announced that new trains will be commercially operated on Nara Line, Kyoto Line, Kashihara Line, and Tenri Line from October 2024.
The name is "8A series". In 2024, 12 sets of 4-car trains, which are totally 48 cars, will be installed. L/C seats, meaning that seat arrangement can be switched depending on crowd, are installed. Individual door buttons, big space for baby cars and big baggage, separating board between the seat near the door and other seats, 4 surveillance cameras, and Big LCDs showing multi-lingual information will also be installed. For easier boarding and alighting, the gap between train floor and platform will also be mitigated by lowering train floor.
Electricity consumption of the new train is also reduced by 45%, compared with the conventional trains to contribute to environment.
Exterior remains two-tone color based on the current characteristic of Kintetsu trains. Kintetsu says "The design is intended to let existing passengers be familiar with the new trains".
8A series trains are also planned to be installed on Osaka Line, Nagoya Line, and Minami-Osaka Line.
