JR East announced debut of the Limited Express Train running overnight on Chuo Line as extra train in the summer of 2024.
The train name is "Alps". It departs from Shinjuku at 23:58 and arrives at Hakuba at 6:22 on the next day.
It will be operated on July 12, August 9, September 13, and September 20. E257 series train composed of 9 cars is in charge of this train.
Express "Alps" and Rapid "Moonlight Shinshu" used to be overnight train on Chuo Line. But, both of them haven't run recently.

Overnight trains were reduced in Japan, because they are not profitable for railway companies. These days, as extra luxurious trains, some overnight trains revived. But, it's rare to see revival of overnight train as non-luxurious train.
