Why conventional transportation survives?

edition.cnn.com

Slow and historic transportation can survive by offering luxurious interior.
When it comes to ships, there are still many tour plans to visit overseas by ship. And, usually, interior of the ship seems to be extravagant to entertain people during long haul voyage. So, ship operators created the position as the transportation for the rich, which used to be main transportation mode more than 150 years ago.
On the other hand in Japan, overnight train exterminated a few years ago, except for "Sunrise" which connects Tokyo and Takamatsu, Kotohira, or Izumoshi.
Instead, extravagant trains were reborn as overnight trains. Each railway company tries to attract people by serving 5 star hotel class hospitality. I guess it may establish its brand like ships.
