It's the first metro system in Equador.
Considering the city size of Quito, there should be much more subway lines.
By the way, there are some long distance railway lines operated by the Ferrocarriles del Ecuador Empresa Pública (Ecuadorian Railways Company). But, some sections are dismantled, due to damage by heavy rain. So, some sections should be rebuilt to serve as urban rails.
