Pompeii residence filled with erotic frescoes reopens after 20 years

I was surprised at the fact that Pompeii was not excavated until 19th Century after being buried in 1st Century. I wonder why the city was forgotten for such a long time. Wasn't there an archeologist who noticed the existence of Pompeii?
