I wonder why Islam and Hindu want to restrict activities of women. It seems to be the characteristic of the areas in South Asia and Middle East. (Parts of South East Asia are also full of Muslims)
I guess severe climate forced them to regulate rules about how to behave. Some of them included unreasonable things. That's because technology was not advanced in those days, and people could not solve social issues with theoretical ways.
