I think the least efficient thing MTR Hong Kong has is the staff hanging sign "停(Stop)" rather than maintanance affairs. It's aimed at discouraging passengers rushing into trains. I guess it's enough to close platform screen doors much earlier than closing train doors to discourage those passengers.
