Median Household saving in UK is just 8000 GBP(8937 USD). On the other hand, Median Household saving in Japan is 4100000 JPY(28000USD).
When we consider the average price in UK is higher than that in Japan, the saving in UK is so low that it must be difficult to survive as elderly people in UK.
If they can't work, they have to depend mainly on pensions. It's awful that our lives depend fully on financial status of our government. They should have saved much more money while working.
