Some people doubt the necessity of Chuo Maglev Line, because of its high construction cost and electricity consumption .
In my opinion, there must be an alternative high speed rail connecting Tokyo and Osaka in case of fatal accidents in Tokaido Shinkansen. But, it's dubious that the alternative route should be constructed as the Maglev line.
I have two reasons for suspecting the necessity of Maglev.
First, energy consumption of Maglev trains is about three times as much as that of Shinkansen.
Second, French TGV recorded the top speed of 581km/h, which is rapider than the maximum speed of Maglev trains in operation.
So, when we consider connection with conventional rail lines, construction of railways of steel wheel support system, instead of Maglev system, can be a choice.
