JR Central/West 300series trains are announced to be withdrawn by the next spring

JR Central/West announced to make 300series trains retire by the next spring.
On March in 1992, 300series trains made their debut at the same time with appearing of "Nozomi". "Nozomi" runs faster than previous rapiddest train "Hikari". Then, Highest speed was enhanced from 220km/h to 270km/h and it caused to shorten the travel time between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka by 19 mins. The train covered the distance in two hours and half an hour.
To reduce air resistance, the face of 300series train was made like a nose of a hawk, while previous 0 series train was made like a round nose.
Improvement of the railway bogie and adoption of aluminum alloy made 300series train reduce the weight from 60 tons to 45 tons.
Each 300series train consumes 73% of the electric power consumed by each 0 series train.
