Reduction of inflight meals is initially the mindset of Low Cost Carrier. So, I think it's not a brand-new idea.
The difference between Low Cost Career and Legacy Carrier about inflight meal is just chargeable food or complimentary food.
I don't know why it's taken up as new service by Legacy Carriers.
