Europe wants a high-speed rail network to replace airplanes

In terms of traveling time, the biggest difference between airplane and high speed train is that the former requires baggage inspection and boarding time, and that the latter doesn't. In addition to them, most of the airports are located far from downtown. So, high speed rails should take advantage of this difference.
