We have the technology to end the airport liquid ban, so why is it still in place?

I remember that plastic bottles were thrown away, when we pass through security checkpoints. But now, in some airports, there are machines to check beverages. So, passengers do not have to drink up each bottle or throw them away before security check.
Like it, advanced technology can omit troublesome behavior before security check.
I'd like to see expansion of installation of 3D scanners.
