Why it seems like everyone hates the English abroad

Impression of English man seems to be different between Japan and Europe(US). For many Japanese, England reminds them of gentleman. It's far from the impression of hatred.
Basically, many Japanese have good impression on people in Europe, except for some intellectuals.
