I've heard that Indian couples hold wedding ceremonies which last for more than several days. But, I've never heard it's held with hundreds of participants.
On the other hand, what is becoming common in Japan's wedding is "modest wedding ceremony".
Some couples even skip wedding ceremonies, because of lack of money or treating them as unnecessary events.
