Before construction of Sankou Line was completed in 1978, it was rumored to be scrapped due to decreasing population along the line. In 2016, it transported the smallest number of passengers among Japan Railways.
So, JR West decided to scrap it in April 1 ,2018.
When we see the average ridership of intermediate stations, there are some stations which 0 passenger uses on daily basis. It's the result of depopulation, motorization, and reckless planning of the rail.
I recommend you to visit Sankou Line before abolishment.
