Perils of texting while walking have been pointed out in Japan. Recently, I've heard automatic announcement saying "Do not use cellphones or smartphones while walking. It's because of risks. I wish your cooperation with preventing accidents."
Though I've never heard fatal accidents caused by texting while walking, such risks seem to be recognized widely.
