※Due to long sentences and complicated backgrounds of the article, I summarize the concepts
Most of the exams of national or public universities in Japan consist of 2 stages
1st stage: National Center Test for University Admissions
(Basic test of English, Japanese, math, science, and social studies)
2nd stage: Secondary test held by each university
(Applicated or difficut exams of 3 or more subjects related with what applicants are supposed to study in the university)
The committee wants to replace the 2nd exam with interviews, whose purpose is to choose applicants who've experienced volunteer activities or outdoor activities.
In my opinion, why are the activities unrelated with what they will study in the university important?
I guess it's more important to have ability to learn high school studies and to apply them. And, those who can't solve difficult problems won't have achievement good enough to write paper or give presentation.
And, talented students who succeed in American universities must have experienced exams similar to the 2nd stage.
