It is difficult to define which words are discriminatory slurs. I always insist that there is no word that is absolutely a discriminatory word.
What make a word discriminative are contexts and situations where the word is used.
For example, if general elderly people call human brings 'Men', it's not a discriminatory word. Because they had taken it for granted that 'Men' includes women before sexual .
But now, if officials say the same word, they will be criticized for looking down on females.
Although I don't know whether the situation in the article can allow people to say 'Yid'. It's not good to prohibit particular words everytime, everywhere.
