When a government is controlled by extremists, they tend to strictly punish people with different mindset. The article shows the example of its horror.
Even in democratic countries, some people wish to have a kind of powerful political leader. I guess they imagine some Asian countries which accomplished rapid economic growth under dictatorship of anti-communist political leaders like Taiwan or South Korea. But, dictatorship is not an important factor for economic growth.
Population growth, higher level of education, and lack of competence with communist countries should occupy the most of the reasons why they became developed countries.
