High speed rail is usually used for long haul intercity transportation.
But, China tries to apply high speed rail as the train connecting big city's terminal and suburban cities. It means high speed rail plays the same role as RER in France or major private railways in Japan.
The problem would be how to simplify ticketing systems, considering that it's used by commuters for daily use.
