The Land Transport Authority on Wednesday announced it had finished installing half-height platform screen doors on all elevated stations on the North-South and East-West lines, which they said should help prevent track intrusions.
The screen doors at the final station, Kranji MRT station, began operating on Wednesday morning, three months ahead of the scheduled completion date in June this year.
Pasir Ris was the first station to be fitted with the screen doors in 2009. They were subsequently rolled out to all stations.
The installation of half height platform screen doors is an initiative introduced in the Land Transport Master Plan to reduce the incidence of track intrusions

Installing platform screen doors is prosperous also in Japan. Japanese government is earnest in installing platform screen doors to reduce traffic accidents. But the most important problem is that various trains run on the same line. That is, locations of the doors differ among trains.
In a rare case, minor type trains were ruled out in order to install platform screen doors. But, it can be done only on few lines.
So, it would be better to expand platforms rather than installing platform screen doors.
