Ishihara Shintaro, who is the governor of Tokyo, said that we Japanese have to refrain from going picnic to see full cherry blossoms because we have to share the sufferings with victims of Tohoku Earthquake.
So, many conductors of the flower viewing party in Japan decided to cancel the party on that it is not suitable for this situation.
What is worse, many stores in Great Tokyo area save more electricity than is needed. This is because owners of the stores are worrying about being called "Hikokumin". The word "Hikokumin" means the citizen who is not willing to cooperate with Japanese or has the idea regarded as anti-Japan.
The root of this problem lies in the common thought "To imitate the action of others won't be blamed." or "To be sensitive to the situation would be accepted by public." among Japanese.
But, when we think about the situation carefully, we can find it wrong. If many Japanese refrain from economic activities, Japan economic power will decrease. And it may lead the victims to live in much worse shape.
So, what we can do for the victims is to live as it was before the Tohoku Earthquake. Or we should live more luxuriously.(If you live in the rolling blackout area, you had better find out the way to live luxuriously without consuming too much electricity.)
