Walking through barren desert is too dangerous. There are many reports that many people tried to traverse desert without sufficient preparation were dead. Unlike traversing rain forest, there is no way to get food or water in desert. Moving hundreds of kilometers on foot without food nor water equals to declare suicide. So, those who can afford to help them have to carry them to safer nations by safer transportation modes.
