Though I don’t know the detail situation, I think it is not good for teachers to abuse their own authority.
The authority should be used to teach children rules or order,and should not be used to attack children without a reason.
Recently in Japan, some people have said ”More and more teachers are losing their dignity or authority.”
The important thing is how the authority is used rather than how big the authority is.
