Why weren't they built from the capital?

Chengde – Shenyang heads next tranche of PDL openings
https://www.railwaygazette.com/news/high-speed/single-view/view/chengde-shenyang-heads-next-tranche-of-pdl-openings.html

It's interesting that high speed rails were not built from Beijing, but from Shenyang or other Northeastern cities. Though I don't know the real reason why they were built in irregular order, it would be aimed at prioritizing rural provinces.

Why don't they make use of the conventional tracks?

Seoul starts work on regional express network
https://www.railwaygazette.com/news/infrastructure/single-view/view/seoul-starts-work-on-regional-express-network.html

Suburban railways using tracks or trains of high speed rail are becoming common in China. In South Korea, Regional Express Network(GTX) is a kind of that. But, I guess what South Korean railway companies should prioritize is launching express trains on conventional tracks. Though there are many rail lines around Seoul, there are a few lines where express trains are available at high frequency.
Until inauguration of GTX, they should install express trains as a tentative measure.

Why can we rely on VR everytime?

edition.cnn.com

It would be better to install VR, if many people are suffering from something.
But, that kind of sufferings must be the one that we can overcome while we are distracted.
Otherwise, it's dangerous to use VR. For example, it's not good to watch VR when you are experiencing dental surgery.

Why do many metro lines open at the same time?

Xi’an opens second north-south metro line
https://www.metro-report.com/news/metro/single-view/view/xian-opens-second-north-south-metro-line.html

As is often the case with China's metro, so many metro lines open at the same time in December.
This December, new metro lines or extension of existing lines were inaugurated in Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guiyang, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingtao, and Wuhan.
