Islamic extremists often say "Education or election for women is contradicted with the Koran. We have to remove that kind of movement".
Though it's true that Chapter 4:34 of the Koran refers to how women should behave in front of men, its purpose is that men are supposed to support women financially. And, after the sentence, the Koran says wives have to preserve her family when her husband is absent.
So, it means ladies won't have to obey men, if they don't have a financial problem. And, they are allowed to play a main role in absence of appropriate men. Such an opinion by extremists seems to be distorted interpretation of the Koran.
