Why can they say it's the next way to get oil?

Could a solution to reducing aviation emissions be found in the Arabian Desert?

If we ignore the cost, it's a surprising invention. But, to make it competitive in the conventional market, we have to lower the cost to extract oil from oil-rich Salicornia. It would be a long way to make it cheaper than digging out crude oil.
And, I wonder if it can produce enough oil to replace crude oil, considering the quantity of oil extracted from one piece of Salicornia and the speed of Salicornia's growth.
