Though I don't know their viewpoint on history, destroying ancient sites easily is not acceptable. Even if preserving those sites seems to be idol worship, which ISIS bans based on the Koran, ancient sites is not only idol but also important in terms of architectural or archeological study.
So, destroying historic sites is similar to tear out textbooks.
